Merge turned twenty last year. To celebrate, we created a subscription-based box set. In addition to CDs of covers and remixes, we asked fourteen creative people (ranging from chef David Chang to comedian Amy Poehler) to curate compilations of their favorite songs from Merge’s catalog. Each disc also contained rarities, videos, and other unreleased material. The curators each selected the artwork for their compilation’s cover. The box is rounded out by a poster by NY Times infographic designer Andrew Kuo, a Scharpling and Wurster comedy disc, and a book containing photographs of Merge bands, staffers, and friends holding every release since 1989. But wait, there’s more! 100% of the proceeds went to charities of the curators’ choosing. The credits for this project are a mile long….special kudos to project manager Adam Jackson, editor Mirla del Rosario, Katy Clove who did all the heavy lifting for the Merge Companion book, and Ray Fenwick who contributed an awesome illustrated pattern that was featured throughout (you can kinda glimpse it on the inside of the box here.) More on SCORE! (there are about 150 box sets left) here.
